Monday morning on the football field

10/06/08 @ 10am...still eating breakfast.

Levi and Jocori

Rosie and Trooper
Rosie and Trooper againSinatraWhiskeyJonah
Jonah and Grace

The football team as you can see is doing very well. They are being fed a three grain hay "Oat, Wheat and Barley." They really like this hay and as you can see are doing very well on it. Dr. Adam was the one who initially called them Roly Polies. They are very happy horses. They also received their carrots this morning from the carrot lady.

Monday morning

Good Monday Morning,

The weekend was pretty busy as always. Played with AJ and Hope, well we try to make their training fun for them and us as well. Since Hope is her mother's daughter she gets a bit pushy at times. However she has found that we push back with a stern NO. She wants to do things her way, but she is now understanding completely that we walk like a lady and we behave like a lady when we are on halter and lead. She "Gets It." Very intelligent little/big horse.

We attempted to have Apple Bobbing for the little ones but it really was not successful. When we brought Baby B in with them, she showed them how it was done. She also showed them if you want something bad enough you just dump the water barrel, grab your apple and run. I know they were happy after she showed them how it was done.

As I went to retrieve the barrel and put Baby B back in her area, AJ let me know he wanted to play with the barrel. He tried on three occasions to grab it from me. He is such a social butterfly and loves to receive the attention at all times. He can be hugged on, scratched on and if he could go with you wherever you go, he would. Lisa is in for a treat as he is what I call a pocket pony. Wonderful wonderful personality.

We have some major work to do in the Big Girls pen. Their pens have to be completely scraped again. They will be spending a few days in the round pen, so we can allow their pens enough time to dry. When they go, they go. Their manure is easy to clean up but my goodness, wet spots are tough. So in order for it to dry we have to completely strip the stalls and start all over. Thank goodness for the little yellow tractor. I tried by hand but made zero headway. Oh well, its all part of the job.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to do live chat online via our Ustream. It gave me the opportunity to speak to many people I have communicated with over the last couple of years but never spoke to. So, what our plans are is on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:30pm PST (as long as nothing of an urgent matter arises) I will be on our Ustream channel and talk about the horses. We spoke of the little ones and we spoke of Jerri's progress. I like to know who I am talking to, so if you join us it would be nice if you could sign in with your name. It makes it so much more personal for everyone. We thank you in advance.

Well the day has started and I have several items that must be accomplished. I wish all of you a wonderful wonderful day, you deserve it! Stay safe, and when things seem tough, take a deep breath and think of something that brings a smile to your face.

Have a great one!

Hope-Jerri blanket

This is the actual blanket being bid on in our silent auction

Saturday morning

Good Morning Everyone,

I would like to take this time to speak to each of you about family and the importance of it, and how it should be cherished.

There are a few but not many that know I have another son by the name of Tony. We had a falling out four years ago. This is not something I am proud of as I was raised to cherish my family and I do. He had done something four years past, and I believe he is not proud of it, but is not quite sure how to come around. He is very stubborn and determined..(takes after his father..LOL). I have been able to keep abreast of what is going on in his life, via my sister Debbie, my parents and Joseph and Nikki. He has made some significant and positive changes in his life during the past four years. He got married, joined the Army last January and seems to be happy. I am happy for him despite the fact that we do not speak. He knows that his family keeps me informed even if he does not want to communicate. I have accepted this.

This has been weighing on my mind and surely in my heart for a long long time. My sister called last night to wish me a Happy Birthday as we were on our way to dinner with my parents. She then asked to speak to my mom, so I passed the phone onto her. During dinner I asked my mom what did Debbie want?

Debbie did not want to tell me as not to upset me, but mom gave in and told me.

My son Tony leaves tomorrow October 5 as he is being assigned to a unit South of Baghdad. I ask if you would please say prayers for his safe return, he will be gone a year. He knows that I want him to be safe and that I have asked the Lord to watch over him..thanks to my parents.

Cherish your families, as I am hoping this will bridge the gap between a mother and her son. We both have our faults and have made mistakes. But I still love him and always will. Keep your family close, hold your friends close as well as they are part of your family when you let them into your heart and life.

Thank you for listening

Stephanie

Thursday morning

Good Thursday Morning to All,

Well, we have had intermittent cam over the last few days and I apologize for that. It is our computer and I must get it into the shop to see if more memory will help it. I will attempt to keep it up as much as I can until then, with everything else that is going on sometimes it is a bit tough, but will try.

All is well with the horses. I measured AJ and Hope yesterday for Lisa so that she can purchase their Colorado bound traveling attire. I cannot wait to see photos of them when they eventually play for their first time in snow, should be a hoot.

Jerri and Apple are doing well. They have adjusted very very well without their little ones. It is all in the process of moving on.

The cool crisp mornings have everyone fired up, especially the football field. They begin zipping back and forth about 5:30am, chasing chickens and each other. Heels kicking up, whinnying and the basic game of "Keep Away". Fun to watch. They are all doing very well and are quite happy. We have been taking Shania and Dublin and letting them spend the day out there. However, Shania seems to be standoffish with the others. When they walk up to her just for a greeting she flattens her ears, and gives them the "Stink Eye" so they just steer clear. Dublin takes it all in stride, allows a bit of sniffing but is not interested in making long term friendships with that group.

Rocky, the OTTB that my parents foster is going to be celebrating his 40th B-day here very soon. He is doing so good for his age..very content, especially since four years ago he was very very thin and unwanted..now he is a rolly polly and still full of himself. Good to see them at this age happy.

I do hope that everyone has a wonderful day.

September Hay ride winners

Congratulations

Jeri and PatS

on your win of the September Hayride Prizes

Jeri, I am positive that the recipient of your generosity is thrilled.

Thank You.

MHR will be submitting their check to the Laminitis Fund in the name of Patricia Skidmore. As most of us know. I lost my beautiful Sierra to Laminitis. She was a rescue who had come to us with many issues. Those issues were minor compared to Laminitis. She was loved but that could not cure this horrid disease of the hoof.

Thank you once again to everyone and I do mean everyone for making the horses happy with full tummies and for making individuals happy as well!

Stephanie

Tuesday morning

Good Tuesday Morning,

Thank you to everyone for the well wishes for Jerri. A HUGE thank you goes to Theresa.

Jerri had a major breakthrough. We do not know why nor do we try to figure it out but it happened and it was/is a wonderful wonderful thing.

Reflecting back over the last nine months and how Jerri was the day she arrived. There was fear in her eyes, a fighting stance and in a few words, there was no trust of humans. This is all changing and we feel this is such a major accomplishment. We as humans know what how we feel with fear and once we have faced our fears the relief we feel.

I sat outside last night watching Jerri, wondering what she was feeling, if there is a sense of contentment in her life now. I sure hope so. I do know that her eyes have softened considerably and her demeanor has changed all good. It seems that it has been such a long road to travel but the reward for our patience is incredible. Now it is a matter of continuing our efforts with the same patience as we do not want her to have any set backs. Sometimes this can happen, one step forward and four back but you never give up.

Jerri has made great strides in her rehabilitation and we are hoping this will continue and hopefully someday in the future she will be in a position to find her "Forever Home" but until that time we will continue our efforts for her.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful day and it brings you a sense of peace and happiness that you make a difference in the lives of family, friends and our Equine Friends. Thank you to everyone for participating in our September Hay Ride!

Jerri's Breakthrough

Monday, September 29, 2008

A big big day!!!

A huge huge breakthrough with Jerri has been occurring the last few days but today was enormous!!!

We have been able to give her skirtches from the shoulders back and she has not flinched and doing quite well with this attention. While I was out with Rob today assisting him with clients horses, Theresa came over and Jerri allowed her to catch her, put a lead rope on her and groom her with no fuss or no muss.

Not more than 20 minutes while I was with Amelia, I and Rob personally witnessed Theresa catch Jerri up again and this time allowed Theresa to pet and love on her. We are so excited about this breakthrough..my heart is singing!!

This means so much to us considering where Jerri was when she arrived Jan 08. MHR is doing the Snoopy Happy Dance!!!!

Friday morning

Good Friday Morning to All,

All is well this morning, it has been very quiet. In the distance we could hear a calf bawling. There aren't many cattle left in our area with the exception of the Ponderosa Dairy. It is mostly horses in our valley and lots of them, almost as many horses as people.

Miss Grace was on a bender yesterday evening. For whatever reason she was frisky/ornery. She had that football team rockin' an rollin' which is quite surprising. She first started by chasing Whiskey and I was like Whoa, did she eat her Wheaties??? She had him going all over the place and at one point nipped his hiney. I kinda giggled at that cause he is always giving everyone so much grief. The funny thing though was that she was happy with her accomplishment. She spun around, neck arched, tail flagged, high stepping and snorting as if to say anyone else???? Just "BRING IT!!!"

I remember though there was time when Grace was not like this, when she arrived in January of 2007, she was truly a mess from an injury that she sustained to her left hind leg that had not been treated till she arrived here at MHR. We were scheduled to do surgery on her leg on January 12th, however our vet wanted us to try one other procedure first. Actually we had two vets here on that day, and they both agreed on trying something different. It took every day for over 9 months cleaning the leg and applying medication, giving antibiotics and such. Well, it turned out to work and Grace may have a scarred leg, but she's doing very well. For the most part, it is rare that we ever receive a horse at MHR that does not have an issue outwardly or inwardly. Individuals who adopt a rescue horse are truly getting a treasure as they are FIGHTERS. They are not perfect, but by gosh they are giving human beings another chance, and they are willing to give unconditional love.......'

"Just like a Mother"...unconditional love, giving second chances..Bless them all!

Thursday afternoon

Good Afternoon All,

Taking a short break! All is well here at the ranch.

Muffin has been ornery with his neighbors Simba Marie and JoJo, he has been reaching over the bars to bite at them and even kicking at them. I figured I'd take him for a stroll, he decided no I will take you for a stroll. He wanted to go a visiting, he toodled along nosing up to some of the other horses and at one point even started to walk up to Moon's stall. He stopped short and they each gave one another the stink eye. Muffin acted like I will not even grace you with my presence. We walked out by the football team and they all came over to greet him. Of course Levi puffed out his chest and let Muffin know that this was his team. Muffin totally ignored him. Trooper and Rosie came over and of course Rosie being the loose woman that she is was batting her lashes at this almost 41 yr old fellar, and she is only gonna be six. Trooper took exception to this and pushed Rosie with his nose and sauntered away, of course Rosie knows which side of her bread is buttered and off she went. Whiskey was like, hay come over here, can I push you around?? Once again Muffin rolled his eyes, not to be intimidated by Whiskey. Of course Jonah was at the fence tossing those blond locks (tossing his head around). Muffin was not bothered by any of this. We toodled around for a bit more, but Muffin was giving indication it was time to return home, of course all the while JoJo and Simba Marie were calling out to him. Muffin did make an extra stop to visit with Misty a second time and this time Misty let out the "mare squeal"..oy! Muffin went back in his stall content and it seems the two girls were happy he was back as they immediately wanted his attention. Guess that did the trick for Muffin as he regained the RESPECT he wanted from them. At almost 41 he deserves it all and he gets it all.

Tuesday morning

Good Morning to Everyone,

I am sorry I have not been posting the last few days, I have been busy beyond words.

I have had several projects going at the same time. Jumping around from one to the other is difficult, but I think it is coming to end...there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Dr. Henesler was here yesterday, drawing AJ's blood for his Coggins and giving him his shots. He and I were laughing as AJ just stood there, no flinching, no nothing and he (Dr. H.) was once again impressed we had no problems. However, Miss Hope was with us and here soft velvety nose was checking everything out, when I said "They are in your hip pocket" Dr. H.'s response was " Now whose fault is that" with a huge smile on his face. He also added, it is a joy to go to a call where the babies just stand for everything that is thrown their way and they do not go into orbit. I took this as a compliment.

I am absolutely thrilled with the adoption of AJ to Lisa as well. I had the opportunity to talk to Lisa yesterday and she is thrilled beyond words. This truly is a time to celebrate the lives of these "Magical" Little Big Ones. They have brought joy to so many, and I can no longer be selfish and want to keep them for myself...it is time to share...LOL. and I am happy to. I am very very excited about getting to watch them grow up in the Colorado Rockies, snow and a happy family to be kept safe and loved unconditionally, just as they have for us.

Everything else is going well here at the ranch, the weather is turning cooler, horses are frisky, snorting and kicking up their heels. You will hear a horse whinney in the early morning from a distance and the horses of MHR responding their greeting in return. This causes quite the chain reaction, but it is a nice sound. Of course roosters crowing, and the young roosters at the ranch still going through puberty and their little voices breaking up. That just cracks me up...kind of a sick little sound they make but they will get it.

Well, as much as I would like to chat, duty calls. Everyone have a blessed and safe day.

THANK YOU TO ALL FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Big News

Two Big Announcements

First

Official weaning time for AJ, 8:56am the 19th of September

All is well and Hope was very happy to see him and vice versa. I will get pictures and possibly some video if I can today.

Second

Fred will be departing MHR on Sunday, morning the 21st of September at 8am. Transporter contacted me this morning and is ahead of schedule.

WhooHoo for Fred and Mary Elynne (whom I have already contacted) She is very very excited.

Fall brings on many changes and they seem to be happening rapidly.

Fred will be missed, and I thank this good boy for coming into our lives and giving us a Second Chance to prove that not all humans are unkind and cruel.

Friday morning

Good Friday Morning,

I do hope this finds everyone well and looking forward to a relaxing, peaceful weekend.

The first day of weaning went well for the most part. This morning seems to a bit tougher on Hope and I have to keep my eye on Jerri as well as she appears to be a bit depressed. She is not making a sound but her mannerism is off kilter a bit. I checked on Hope throughout the night to ensure she was fine...and she was and is. Lots of pacing.

Sometime today will be AJ turn. Ahhhh, the rights of passage. I think he will be more of a sissy lala than Hope but we shall see.

I had some email with Lisa last night and she is going to be bringing Big Mama with her to give Hope company on the trip HOME. Wow, home, Hope has got a home!! I am so thrilled for Lisa you cannot imagine. She is going to feel the joy and excitement I had when Hope was born and to raise her for the first 4.5 months of her life (by the time she departs). It has been wonderful sharing her with all of you, and the fact that all of you made such a huge difference in her life from the very beginning. I know with her busy schedule, Lisa will share photos and her experiences with all of us when she can.

Everyone else is doing well. Muffin and Acey, the two oldest at the ranch, are enjoying the cool weather and Muffin has been quite frisky. He loves feeding time (don't they all) as he get his Sr. Equine and just talks away. Wuffling softly to whinnying as loud as he can to ensure we see and hear him. I always tell him, I am not blind and I am not deaf as I DO HEAR YOU! I said the surrounding neighbors hear you! This though makes you feel good that for the past six years he has just become more lovable than he was from the day we picked him up in California. Gotta love em...gotta love them all. Acey is doing well as long as you do not remove her from her environment. With her being blind, she becomes so nervous outside of her stall, it is truly her comfort zone and there is no need to upset the balance of her little world. She also loves her Sr as well and at almost 41 is doing great.

Well, the morning beckons so I must go for now. All of you have a blessed and safe day. I hope to be able to visit with you at least once or twice during the day.

WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST OFFICIAL BID THIS MORNING FOR THE "HOPES FIRST DAY OF LIFE" blanket...WHOOHOOO. Please visit our Silent Auction thread...it is for the general fund at MHR which makes a difference in the horses lives.

Wednesday afternoon

Good Afternoon All,

The reason I am writing is to share with you a conversation that I had with my dear friend Julie who is the person that took care of the first rescues made by the FOBs in 2006.

Julie and I had discussion on the dire straits of horses in her area and what has transpired just in her surrounding area. Now mind you this is what she has seen and witnessed herself.

She was stating that she had not been to an auction in about 7 months, as she became pregnant with her third little one and knew if she went she would not come home empty handed and she could not add anymore to her already large herd. She did however go this past weekend upon returning from a ceremony honoring her husband. She had explained that the KB had not been really coming often 7 months ago, but now she observed that he was running three trucks which sickened her. She also told me that a three for one came through, a very well bred QH, her foal at her side and she was bred back as well. She said the foal went for $25.00, and the mare in foal went for $70.00. She said that they did not remain after that, she had become ill over this. Though she wanted to bid, she couldn't it was very heartbreaking for her, but she had to think of her family and the herd of horses she already had to feed.

She said grass hay is very expensive and she is grateful that she has pasture. However, she has had people leave horses at her gate and she has found homes for them (good homes).

I explained how hard it is for us and she understood completely. We struggle daily but we make it and we are grateful for all the assistance we receive from all of you. Thank you ever so much!!

Speaking with Julie today was good for both of us, it was moral support and a reality check.

I just wanted to share this with all of you. It has not been intended to upset any of you, and I am sorry if it has, it was the reality of what so many rescues and private individuals are encountering.

Thank you so very much for everything that you do to help the horses.

Stephanie

Wednesday morning

Good Wednesday Morning,

Still working on projects as we were interrupted several times during the day and of course that always puts you behind. But the old saying "The Hurrier I Go The Behinder I Get" was truly befitting in our case.

Well, how do I put this except to say "It's Weaning Time." I know, I know you are all probably saying, No, No it's too soon. It has come time. Both Hope and AJ need to move on to the next phase of their young lives. I know that I am not looking forward to this as I have a feeling this is going to be worse than Baby B and Spirit ever thought of being. But, they will get through this...question is, will I?? We are trying to figure a suitable area for them but where I can still keep a watch on them. I will let you know when I have it figured out. If you recall, Dr. Henesler stated we had to give AJ until he was three months old so his little mind could develop. Even though Apple is receiving her supplements daily he is still taking his toll on her, and she deserves some tranquility in her life without having to share her feed/milk with him any longer. He is truly a very very large boy and he is sucking the life out of her. I need to do what is best for her and her health as well. I have an idea but will have to think it through a bit more.

Well, Robert and I ordered a new sign for MHR. The original sign is in pretty sorry shape. The original sign was donated to MHR one month after we opened our gates in February 2001. It has seen it's share of the sun baking it, being sandblasted by our dust storms and occasionally the rain. This should have been done a long time ago, however it was not on the priority list (Horses First ya know), but pulling in the front gate the other day I said, oh this has got to go, this is so sad looking. I will take a photo once we have it mounted.

Big Joe (volunteer) and I cleaned water barrels yesterday morning, seems like such a long and tedious task but it was accomplished. If we managed to get through any chore without interruption it was this one.

I must go for now as chores are calling my name. I wish each of you a wonderful day, enjoy your family, friends and furbabies. They are truly a precious gift.

Monday morning

Good Monday Morning Everyone,

Well, we are still working on various projects, bouncing back and forth to get them all complete. But we see light at the end of the tunnel and it's not, or a least I hope it's not, a freight train headed towards us.

The weather is cooling and you really can see the horses are becoming much more active, yesterday morning especially. This last spring we had a clutch of chicks hatched and of course they have grown and are always running around..busy..busy. After the football field was fed (and so was everyone else) I was going around checking and filling the water barrels. As I was standing by Dumplin's stall I noticed quite a bit of activity in the field. A couple of the horses were scurrying around and then walking back to their food. Seems they had found something that captured their interest or were being annoyed. I wandered over and saw what it was....seems a couple of the little hens and one brave rooster were attempting to scratch around in the horses hay...well...that was not going to happen.

Rosie, Trooper, Whiskey and Grace were not going to have anything to do with this. Remember the childhood game "Hot Potato"? Well, every time one of the chickens would get into some hay (brave little souls) a big soft velvety nose would bump it, lifting it in the air and tossing it a bit, this was going on between the four of these horses, and the little chickens were not giving up. It was quite comical to watch, but knowing how things can go bad, I figured I had better feed our little winged friends to ensure their safety. I went to their grain barrel and began calling them and from all corners of the property a flurry of feathers and tiny little dust clouds came rushing to me for their breakfast. I think the first time the FOBs witnessed this they laughed so hard, I like to think I have trained our MHR chickens, but they are so food motivated that it does not make any difference who calls to them, they will come a runnin'.

All the horses are doing well. Hope will be leaving on October the 19th to her "Forever Home" with Lisa. I did tell her via email that this was going to be a hard goodbye, but what I did not tell her was I was crying as I responded and as I write this to all of you the screen is a bit blurry. Our mission is to find "Forever Homes" and Hope is getting one of the very best out there, it is just when you have rescued her mother, lost her grandmother, and then watched this beautiful little one enter the world and realize that she would not be here for it not for all of you, it makes it tough. Rob told me last night after I walked away from the computer, as he knows the emotional attachments I get with our horses, he said "This is what we strive for, to find the best homes. You have accomplished your goal, now it's time to let go, not to say goodbye. Hope is moving on to the next phase of her life, to live and learn and to give pleasure to others." Though it makes sense, it does not mean I relish the day she leaves MHR. She will always and I do mean always be a part of my heart and the heart of many others around the world. Look at what all of you have done for this beautiful little/big filly.. Again many many Thanks to Lisa for opening her heart and her gate for Hope.

Well, with all that said, I have many many chores to accomplish today and as John Wayne said in his movie "The Cowboys" were "We're Burning Daylight" I will get going. I hope everyone has a splendid Monday and be safe and take care of yourselves. I hope maybe I can get in some fun puter time with all of you this evening.

Saturday morning

Good Saturday Morning to All!

We are still working on projects but they are winding down. We spent a wonderful evening with my parents, Joe, Theresa, Mikey and Amelia (grandchildren). We had a late evening dinner as my parents took us all out since one of the projects was theirs. It was nice to see the smile on their faces once it was completed. It is so nice to help those that have been there for us during our lives and have given so much of themselves.

Speaking of giving and feeling good, last night as we prepared to feed the horses several things occurred that I would love to share with you. As I walked out, the dust began swirling about, as I walked towards Baby B and Spirits area. First let me say, Baby B was out in their play area and Mr. Spirit was in his stall as they alternate, one will get all day out and one gets all night out. Anyway, as I began walking towards their area with their food, Baby B began running around squealing and kicking her heels up, a couple of really good crow hops, she continued this until I got closer, would run into her stall and then back out making the lap around the play area, meanwhile Spirit was in his stall standing in place and bucking, and making those tiny squealing noises as well. It was quite a sight to watch, dust and all. I looked at Baby B and told her to go to her room, and of course she did. My telling her to go to her room can be verified by the FOBs that were here Labor Day as they witnessed it first hand. She went in and I gave her the food she so wanted. I walked to Spirit's stall, gave him his food and he grabbed up a hay cube as I opened his gate, as I stepped back he came running out, did a lap kicking up his heels all the while chewing on hay cube, never to be out done by his cousin Baby B.

The other thing that really made my heart sing was I was able to stand and pet Jerri's nose with three consecutive strokes and she did not back away. She is beginning to trust and I feel this is quite an accomplishment since her arrival in January as a wild child. Boy, when these horses give they give back in a huge way, and it is when you least expect it. Big happy smile!!!!

Buttercup is beginning to display her fall and winter attitude, "The Ear Pinning." All summer long she really did not display this, but we noticed with weather changing she is feeling very spunky, she is all Bluff though. What a silly girl she is.

Whiskey yesterday decided he was going to challenge Levi. It started out by giving him the stink eye and slowly moving into Levi's area. However, Levi stepped up and you actually saw a light bulb go off in Whiskey's mind as if to say "What was I thinking?" So instead of chasing Levi, Whiskey decided it was safer to chase "John Wayne" the rooster who had sauntered into the outter perimeter of the football field.

Fred will be leaving the 25th of this month, and I need to get his measurements so that his new mommy can get him a blanket and a rain slicker. So many little things that we must get accomplished today and this is one of many.

Everyone else is doing well. I would like to thank you all once again for giving to the horses at MHR. They are what it is all about and being able to share their antics with you is because of YOU. All of you have made a difference in their lives and it is appreciated.

I do wish all a wonderful weekend, and for those with ailing family members and ailing furbabies we hope for a speedy recovery and know that we do keep you in our thoughts even though we may not say it all the time. Renew friendships and love as life is too short to harbor ill feelings. Smile at a stranger and hopefully they will pass it on.

Urgent rescue effort underway in Nevada

Moapa Valley Paints

A rancher in Moapa Valley, Nevada breeds papered paints. He claims he is going out of business because of hay prices and water issues, but others say this sale is a yearly event. Whatever the true story is, there is a group of 20 brood mares about 10-12 yrs old, a 2 yr old filly, 7 colts and 15 foals on the way who will be sent to slaughter unless buyers are found.

As much as Miracle Horse Rescue would like to aid in this rescue effort, not only do we not have the additional room, we do not have the guarantee that we will have the financial ability to purchase food for more horses. The rancher is asking $400 each. They will need shoes, vaccinations and training.

If you have the room and financial resources to help these horses, or if you know of someone who can help, please call 702-375-4462.

Wednesday morning

Hay Everyone,

Sorry for not being around for the last few days. We have been working on projects and there has been some family birthdays etc., so it has not allowed for a lot of computer time.

The horses are doing great! CB is doing wonderful next to Half Moon. It never ceases to amaze me when there has been a change with anyone of the horses and their stalls. CB is quiet and lady like and Half Moon rough and tumble (one of his many personalities) and now with her next to him he has actually taken on a quiet and demure attitude..LOL. When his buddy Cloud was next to him they were so much fun to watch as they behaved like a couple of little boys, and then there was always the stink eye they gave each other. It has been a good blend though.

AJ and Hope are doing great, just as Baby B and Spirit are, wonderful to see these young lives so full of energy. Too bad we could not bottle this energy.

Misty is superb as well as Rosie, they look wonderful and of course behave wonderfully. Hard to believe that Misty is going to be 28 this coming year, she just looks fantastic and has the spirit of a ten year old. Rosie loves her Trooper and is quite content hanging with him. Muffin and Acey will both be 41 this coming year and they both are doing very well. Like us humans they have their good days and their bad days, but for 98 percent of the time they are full of spunk. Buttercup is doing very well, she has NEVER had a breathing issue since she arrived from PA over a year ago, and her weight is completely up. She and Emmett are doing very well together and isn't that what it is all about the safety and comfort of the horses? Brassy is doing okay since the loss of Wally Tamale. I had some concerns at first due to the fact that she did go into a funk for a couple of days after we lost him, but she has since bounced back and is back to her normal, crabby self. Honey is doing very very well. She is coming along beautifully and is really giving us a great insight as to her personality now. She is very very loving and thoroughly enjoys a soft brush against her body, except when she is eating, I saw her put up her do not disturb sign the other day letting us know when I am eating do not mess with me. However she is not the boss of me so I will go in and brush her while eating and she has began to tolerate that.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their participation in our Hay Fund Drives, Sponsorships and the Doc Wilbur Medicine Cabinet. Your participation in any one of these areas makes a huge difference in the lives of the horses. THANK YOU ALL!!!

Speaking of Sponsoring a Horse, it does not require a person to send a lot of funds, even $5.00 a month towards a particular horse adds up. Also, horses can have multiple sponsors, as well as the horses that are up for adoption as they have needs as well. Until a horse is adopted and has gone to its' "FOREVER HOME" it has needs as well and every little bit helps. Lots of little bits together add up and help so much in our efforts to care for these beautiful animals.

We have been and still are having technical issues with Justin TV, but I know that they are working diligently to rectify any and all problems. Technology is wonderful but it can be frustrating as well, so we once again thank you for your patience. No need for all of you to get gray hair, I get enough for all of us.

I do hope that everyone has a blessed and wonderful day and remaining work week for most. Enjoy your family and friends...give a stranger a smile and make them feel good. Try and take any negative thoughts and turn them into positive thoughts, be Proactive instead of Reactive and you will be amazed at what can be accomplished.

Tuesday morning

Good Morning,

Diane and Shannon are still here with us.

The house is very quiet. dogs are even subdued. It has been a very emotional weekend, but I trust to say one that will not be forgotten anytime soon. Though plans had to be changed or cancelled, everyone understood. A lifetime bond was created by the humans that were in attendance.

Life is precious and can be over in a whisper. I know that I have said this many times, but cherish each day with your loved ones, friends, and furbabies. I do feel drained, but it is not because of the activities with my extended family, but due to the loss of two very precious lives that came through our gates two years ago. I was their caretaker day and night, loving them as I love all the horses here, and the only thing I could do for them in the end was let them go peacefully. I felt helpless just as everyone else did, wanting to fix what was wrong, but we could not.

I am thankful to everyone that has been so supportive, to everyone that was here, you were a comfort to me and made a huge difference in the transition that transpired.

Thank you to everyone that sent emails and telephoned, it was truly a comfort for everyone here.

Wally

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this.

Our dear sweet Wally is gone. Candae, I am so so sorry, your sponsorship of Wally made a huge difference in his life. He was loved by many but he held a special place in your heart. Everything humanly possible was done for him. Wally was ready to be set free.

To lose both Leaguer and Wally within 48 hours of one another has taken its toll emotionally on everyone.

Both veterinarians that worked on these precious boys did an outstanding job, and they are to be commended for their kindness, compassion, and the knowledge to give the sound recommendations to end undue pain and suffering. We thank them profusely.

This was surely not how I wanted what was suppose to be a joyous weekend to be, but I believe that everything happens for a reason. I do know that a stronger bond has been developed, and they were witness to the bad and the pain that occurs at rescues. Each one was able to tell Wally goodbye, he left this earth knowing that he was loved by many, just as Leaguer was as well.

I would like to thank, Ro, LindaH, LindaS, SusanE, Sally, Kathie, Karen, Paul, Diane, Shannon, Rob, Joseph, Theresa, my parents, Frances, Rick Mier, and Rob, my strength, my rock, for being my pillar yet once again during the loss of our precious ones.

I also extend our deepest and sincerest gratitude to each of you, for your prayers and keeping us in your thought during this time. Thank you ever so so much.

Leaguer and Wally, so long my friends, we shall meet again, but until that time you will be forever in our thoughts.

Stephanie

Saturday, 6:30pm PDT

Dr. Adam Hadland will be here within an hour. He has been on emergency calls in Vegas.

Wally is not doing well. He has stopped eating, he has very little water intake. We are not giving up though. Once Adam is here we are going to see what options we have for Wally. Please, please pray for Wally.

Stephanie

Saturday, 9:42am PDT

There are no changes this morning. Wally has remained standing so this gives us some hope.

I or someone will keep you posted. Thank you ever so much for the emotional and financial support. This has been a very rough couple of days, but we will get through this all one way or the other.

Wally Tamale, TB, gelding, had a colic attack on Thursday. We had the vet come and we did the usual colic treatment. Wally was better throughout the day on Friday, but on Friday night he seemed to colic again. So once again we called the vet and we now have this Wally update:

Both vets believe that Wally is considerably older than we were led to believe by his former owners. We thought he was in his early 20s, but it seems that he is at least in his late 20s or early 30s.

Colic has been ruled out. Dr. Hadland believes he is experiencing possible kidney failure, which does put a stress on the digestive system. His intestines are moving very slow.

We must feed him very small amounts every two hours. We will be going to get him the electrolytes first thing in the AM as well as Sr. Equine to entice him to eat as prescribed by Dr. Hadland. I just came in from checking on him (approx 1am) and he is still standing. He has also prescribed banamine for any discomfort. I will call Dr. Hadland in the morning and give an update to him and he will return right away if need be. However, he will be here tomorrow evening (Saturday) to check on him.

We have no further information to provide but will update when we have any news.

Leaguer

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm sorry to tell you that MHR lost one of its own today.

The loss of Leaguer has come as quite a shock. There were absolutely no signs whatsoever of any problems. All was well last night, and early this morning when I saw him down, I knew then we had a problem. We worked with him and worked with him, called the vet who at the time was working on yet another horse for colic. Dr. Adam gave him shots for pain and then proceeded with treatment, to no avail. Adam stated that Leaguer was not even a candidate for surgery as he stated he would more than likely not make it through.

I was with Leaguer until the end, FOB Diane was here, Big Joe (volunteer) was here and Rob was here. We did what we could for Leaguer. I spoke to him as I stroked his cheek and his soft velvety nose. He knew he was loved and he knew it was okay if he wanted to go.

Sheriff Susan, you have been a loyal supporter of CB and Leaguer and I feel your pain as I know you loved him. Thank you for being Leaguer and CB's sponsor. You were always there and always asked if there was anything special they needed. Thank you ever ever so much. Leaguer may not be with us in body any longer, but he will be forever in our hearts. His perfect diamond on his head, his talking and demanding treats, and his very favorite Watermelon Smoothies, he made the best smoothies! Again many thanks Susan, you were Leaguer's Angel on Earth.

Thank you to everyone once again

Wednesday afternoon

Good Afternoon All,

I hope this finds all of you well this fine day.

We are very excited by the arrival of all of our guests for our 2nd Annual Labor Day Gathering.

There will be plenty of pictures and videos taken this weekend to be posted here and on our blog. It should be a very good weekend for all!

All of the horses are doing great! Dublin aka Dumplin spent the afternoon in the football field and did quite well. He was returned to his stall for the evening and his dinner. It was a good day for him.

Well, we did have a bit of excitement here yesterday, mid-morning. As I was walking through our wash rack area, a four foot rattlesnake slithered across my path. I still get creeped out..ewwwwww. Well, needless to say no more rattlesnake. This was a serious problem for horses, dogs and humans alike.

Always something going on and never a dull moment.

Everyone have a good afternoon and evening

Tuesday morning

Good Day to All!

In October of 2006, MHR along with an Army of individuals saved six horses. Two of these horses were Rosie and Misty both in foal with the now known Baby B and Spirit.

One horse in particular though was "Cloud," the very first save. He was slaughter bound, but the truck was full, so he had to wait out another week for the next truck. He was listed on Craig's List, and it stated that he was going on the next truck. Well, he never made that truck because he was saved by all of you.

He was adopted in December 2006 by one of his rescuers CathyP and he has been living at MHR for almost two years. Well, now as everything else changes and we achieve our dreams, Cloud is now getting to go live with his "Forever Mom". Cloud has succeeded, he has someone to love and care for him his remaining days. Cloud will be traveling to his mom approximately the 1st week of September.

Then there is our Fred, who came to us just a little over a year ago. He was starved, lost his barn buddy due to starvation, was scared and wary of human beings. He touched the heart of Mary Elynne and she watched him over this last year flourish into the beautiful horse he is today. He reached so far into her soul that now our Fred has found his "Forever Mom." He will be traveling the middle of September.

Then, there is our special little one "Hope." Her mom Jerri was saved by FOBs and arrived in January 08 from Canada. Hope will never know the suffering and abuse that her mother and her grandmother (Nellie) endured as PMU mares. Hope is a very lucky little filly as she has found her heaven on earth with LisaL. This little girl will have everything she will ever need, but most importantly the continued love and care she so justly deserves.....as all horses do. Hope will be leaving the middle to the end of October.

I do thank these ladies for what they have stepped up and done for these majestic animals. They are giving them so much. Cloud, Fred and Hope will be sorely missed, and as they leave MHR, they will take a piece of my heart with them. In there departure they have helped to provide care to those remaining at the ranch and for this we are grateful.

It is never easy to let them go, but it is not a time of sadness it is a time of rejoicing as we at MHR have succeeded, this is our mission; to find the right "FOREVER" homes for our very special horses.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support! Look at what you have helped us do!

Announcement

CathyP, one of MHR's early supporters, is about to realize her dream for her adopted horse, Cloud, and herself!!

Cloud will be moving to California only 20 minutes from Cathy's home. This is just grand for the both of them. How much better could it be except if they are in your own backyard.

Dr. Henesler has already been here to draw his blood work and he will be leaving in September along with Fred to their "FOREVER HOMES."

CONGRATULATIONS CLOUD AND FRED

YOU WILL BE MISSED AS YOU ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE A PART OF OUR LIVES.

Cathy and Mary Elynne, Congratulations to you both as

Wouldn't you just love to have me for your very own?? I am available for adoption but I will not be ready for at least another month or maybe 60 days. I am only two months old. I am charming, I give my feet for the Farrier and I really love to be lubbed on. I have been handled since minute one of my birth. I am going to be a VERY VERY BIG BOY, who has a lot of potential.

I am looking for my "FOREVER HOME"

Sincerely yours,

Friday morning

Good Morning!

It is a beautiful morning here in the desert of Nevada. For those that do not know this, Pahrump is located 56 miles East of Death Valley, CA. So when we complain of heat I think of those who reside in Death Valley. Several years ago, I attended festivities in Death Valley, where a large group of individuals came in on covered wagons, horse back and mules. They had spent 10 days traveling the trails our ancestors traveled. It was quite a sight to see, you could see the dust for miles swirling from the wagon wheels and riders. As they rode in, dust covered and of course exhausted, it made you stop and think how many people attempted to cross this vast land before them and those that did not survive the elements but who had a hand in the history of the country.

But, there is one thing in common we had with our ancestors and that was our Equine Friends, who helped shape our country. I watched the riders, and the wagon masters care for their horses and mules long before they cared for themselves. The veterinarian was there checking each beautiful animal ensuring that it was well. These people made me so proud to stand in their presence as they truly cared for these beautiful creatures.

It saddens me to see what some of our society has come to when it comes to our Equine Friends. Seeing them being abused, neglected and then discarded like an old shoe after giving their all..and destine to die a horrific death.

There are so many individuals working so hard to change things for our equine friends. There are those working diligently to stop slaughter , making the calls and faxing daily to get the Anti-Slaughter bills passed. THANK YOU!!!!

There are the many rescues, saving horses from auctions/feed lots, taking in unwanted, starved horses working diligently with their volunteers to rehabilitate these special equines in hopes to find "FOREVER HOMES". The hard work, the love and the heartbreak endured when you did your best and you lose one of your precious ones, but you continue on because so many more need you. THANK YOU!!!!!

Then there are the Special People like you, that help in anyway they can, whether it be through donations, or through cheer leading. Your assistance in every aspect is truly truly appreciated. It is your kindness, compassion and generosity that enables the rescues out there to continue their work for the horses. I, APPLAUD YOU AND I THANK YOU FOR CARING SO MUCH, YOU HAVE NO IDEA JUST WHAT AN IMPACT YOU MAKE DAILY ON THE LIVES OF HORSES. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

Have a wonderful day and weekend everyone!! Be safe!

Thursday morning

Good Morning,

Well, when most were snuggled in their beds last night, we were having to take AJ out for a long walk. He had a stomach ache and we caught it in the early stages. It truly pays to know your horse(s), their activities and personalities. He is doing fine this morning but will continue to monitor him throughout the day. The only horse that was upset that he was out on a walk about was Baby B, his own mother could have cared less. We walked him all over the place, up by the football team, which by the way got so excited when they saw him came a running to the fence vying for the little or shall I say not so little guys attention. We walked and continued to walk. AJ walked into the wash rack, backed out and walked in again. He stepped across a piece of plywood that is a bit warped and wobbles ( we use it as a training aid for exposure) this did not even phase him. We continued to walk and then we got what we were waiting for...poo. Since he was out and being so cooperative and his mom did not care, we played for a bit longer with him. We put a towel over his head and we walked around, watching the towel twitch as his ears moved back and forth. This did not phase him at all. AJ is very, very laid back and accepts everything that he is exposed to whether it be day or night, in a pen or out. He was a real champ through it all. Seems the only creatures upset over this change were Baby B and the chickens. We will be keeping a watch on him.

Otherwise, everything this morning is normal around here. I would like to see an uneventful day, but around here something is always going on.

Everyone have a wonderful Thursday.

Wednesday morning

Good Day All!!

Well, we were out bright and early this morning doing all the water barrels, ensuring that everyone had cool clean water to start their day. I can assure you that the water is cold at 5:30am. AJ being himself this AM decided that grabbing and waving the flowing hose around was just a kick in the jeans. Dogs and I were both scrambling for cover as he became a wild man waving the hose everywhere. After much dodging and wrestling with him I managed to get it from him. All the while Hope was watching and I know her little mind was just a whirling with ideas. All the other horses down the lane were whinnying and watching, sure do not like them to get ideas. I think I heard some giggling.

If you are visiting our blog you will notice that we have added a "Chip In" widget. With the rising feed prices, we are attempting other avenues to generate additional income for the horses. After what so many of our horses have endured prior to their coming to us they do deserve the best.

We have various fund raisers being conducted, from Ice Cream Cone shaped cookies, to beautiful artwork, we hope that you will consider participating in our fund raisers. Additionally, if you feel more comfortable with making your donation directly to our feed store, by all means please do. You can call in your donation to Ron and Patti Cross, owners of Shadow Mountain Feed 775-727-5527. They will apply it to our account and then provide MHR with name and address (you must provide) in order to receive your Tax Deductible Receipt.

At this time I would like to thank our volunteers for all their hard work behind the scenes for the horses.

I would also like to thank everyone, and I do mean everyone, for participating in our fund raisers and for your donations. You have no idea how much you have provided for the horses daily care. If we were able to give out a Gold Medal for valiant efforts you would each receive one.

Well, the day must continue but I will share more later.

Stephanie

Tuesday morning

Hello to All!!!!

It has been a hectic few days around here, but we have managed to stay on top of everything.

Well, we have found that the Barley Bags had a problem in aiding to keep the water tanks clean and cutting down the amount of times they had to be scrubbed per week, and we attribute it to our extreme heat. It started out well; however a black fungus began growing and we immediately removed the bags. We did not want to risk any health issues for the horses due to this fungus. We would like to extend our gratitude to the "Barley Bag Gang." We were so hoping it would work.

We have been working on making the feeding a bit easier, especially for our guests (FOBs) arriving at the ranch over Labor Day weekend. We have buckets hooked over the feed trailer (Hay Cubes) that are pre-filled. This way it is just grab a bucket and go down the line, and make for happy horses. They can be an impatient lot you know. Just ask Apple. It seems to be working real well, and everyone gets their required amount.

I have a little story to share with all of you. For those who have been here and know JD and Glory (Glory is still seeking her forever home) they are both characters, almost as entertaining as the babies. Anyway, I was looking at one of our little hens and thinking to myself that she sure is scroungy looking compared to the others and thought maybe she is ill. Well, I now know what the problem is and it isn't because she is sick. I witnessed her roosting on JD and Glory's stall and the two of them have been taking turns plucking her tail feathers and the little bird brain allows it. I tried shooing her away but she goes back for more, and the two clowns race over to see who gets the first pluck.

Rio, the Corgi we rescued after the loss of our Ceasar, is doing great. He has fit in so well with rest of the gang and has even lost a bit of weight. He does still have his "Badonka Donk." Rio is a real talker and when we have to leave the property and return he lets everyone know we are home and runs around barking. He is a very happy fella.

Apple's eye is doing great. It has been a challenge to keep her fly mask on, her son AJ is the culprit for removing it, despite all of our efforts to weave it in and out and thinking we have it securely fastened. Ha! That does not work either. Yesterday he and Hope were killing the fly mask, they did not tear it up but they were sure letting it know it did not stand a chance against them. I do hope more of you will watch these precious ones on our Justin.tv cam. We do have a chat and would love to talk with you. There have been some recent issues that Justin TV is trying to resolve and as I write to you they are working on.

Jerri is doing better, but the way we look at it, she is a work in progress. She knows that she will not be hurt, but yet there is still that fear factor of humans. I wish she could tell her story, but I am sure it would just break our hearts. It has been five months since we lost her mother Nellie, but it still feels like yesterday. The PMU industry is cruel and inhumane and the end result for the majority of these mares is horrific, as if their lives were not bad enough. Please keep Nellie and Lil Angel in your hearts and thoughts when you speak to others of this industry, WE TOGETHER can make a difference and speak for these beautiful horses.

All the other horses on the ranch are doing great, despite the disabilities that some have. The cooler mornings bring out the clowns in them and they are a joy to watch. We do not have many horses that you can adopt and train for riding, however we have some wonderful companion horses that maybe someone might consider sponsoring or even adopting as a pet. They love to be loved as well. I know that with the rising costs of feed and everything else going up as well has left a crimp in the pocket book for most of us, however, I do hope that you will consider adopting or even sponsoring a horse.

Our day has already started, but the big chores must get done. Everyone have a wonderful day!!!

Thursday evening

Good evening everyone,

When I spoke with Dr. Henesler this morning it was a matter of being encouraged and discouraged all in one. Though our sweet AJ is eating a regular diet, he is also draining Apple. Dr. Henesler said that physically AJ could be pulled from Apple, but mentally it would be devastating for him. He needs his mama for at least the next 30 days to develop into a healthy colt.

Dr. Henesler recommended supplementing Apple's regular feed with Purina Animax, a rather expensive food. When we posted this information to the ABR JAN thread and the justin.tv chat, our supporters quickly assisted us and very quickly donated enough money to supply Apple with a month's supply.

On behalf of Apple and MHR we would like to thank each of you ever so much for your kindness and generosity. Tomorrow, when I have our regular hay delivery I will have them bring over Apple's supplements.

We have done everything we can for Apple and continue to do so, but the increase of feed prices and then the news of our hay cubes going up $10.00 per 1200 lb bag is really a set back. We go through 3 bags per week and that is just the hay cubes. For the Football Field we average 20 bales of Hay every eight days. Hay Cubes are now going to be $155.00 per bag. Hay is 16.00 (+/-) for one bale, and Shadow Mtn sells it at 16 bales per ton.

Apple's eye is doing really well and looks better today. We are going to keep Hope with Jerri until she departs UNLESS we see Jerri being drawn down. But it appears Jerri is starting to do her own weaning.

If all of you remember, Spirit also brought Misty down as well and he was just a few days short of three months old when he was weaned. He survived the transition and is turning into a beautiful horse.

We hope that there is a special "FOREVER" home out there for AJ as well. Hope has found hers now AJ needs his.

THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING YOU ARE A WONDERFUL CARING GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS

Wednesday, late afternoon

Thank you all so very much.

My parents babysat the horses while we went to get Utah. She is home, she was happy to see us. Her little face is still swollen but we were told she is going to be just fine. We have to call in the morning to give the vet an update. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, they worked.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Stephanie

Wednesday, Noon

Good Afternoon All,

The last couple of days we have been very busy, and we had to attend to personal business yesterday. It is not fun when we have to deal with everyday personal/family matters. I would much rather be with the horses, but the reality of it all is we do have a family and things do come up that we do not expect and we have to do our part as well. I do apologize for not having posted sooner, but some things cannot be helped.

We keep Jerri and Apple separated when we have no one in attendance on the property. It would be very irresponsible of us to place the two of them, or shall I say the four of them, in a position that a fight could erupt and there would not be anyone here to break it up. Jerri has proven to be very unpredictable with her moods and Apple. So in order to prevent potential veterinarian costs or worse, we keep them separated during feeding as well as when we are unavailable.

Apple has a slight eye infection which is being treated with medication prescribed by the vet. We have to keep her fly mask on which is not a problem, but AJ obviously has an aversion to this particular contraption on his mother's head, or for that matter on anyone's head. Apple's eye infection will clear up. Untreated, of course, it could get worse; however, we are right on it. A little tidbit: AJ has actually tried to pull Fred's mask off as well. He is always messing with someone.

Hope will be getting her blood work done the middle of September, however she will be getting her traveling shots next week. This was scheduled yesterday with Dr. H.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the August Fund raisers, your participation is appreciated.

Sidenote: We had to rush Utah to the vet as it seems she may have been bitten by a snake of some sort. Her head began to swell rapidly. She is at the vet's right now as they rushed her back to give her injections and she will be monitored for a few hours. She became more distressed when I had to leave her, but their tech is good and was very comforting for her. I asked to stay but they said it would be better if I did not at this point. They will let me know what is going on and when I can COME AND GET HER!!

We were also informed that yet another small dog at the beginning of the week had been bitten by a snake and was doing fine.

Anyway, everyone have a wonderful rest of the day!!!

Saturday morning

Good Morning Everyone,

I wanted to wish everyone a wonderful weekend!!

Yesterday was pretty uneventful, but the regular chores were completed. Uneventful is a good thing though, so I will not complain. The weather right now sunny and getting warmer. We would welcome some rain, but it seems the rest of country is getting it.

Well, I will be back later this evening with the days events, have to get everyone fed.

Have a wonderful day each of you!!!

Thursday afternoon

Good Afternoon Everyone,

It has been a busy couple of days.

Yesterday, Hope and AJ both had their feet done, trimmed. They did very very well. It is always a challenge with the youngsters, but since their feet have been handled from the day they were born, it made things so much easier to utilize the tools.

Today, Fred had his physical and blood drawn for his new journey in his life to his new mom. Dr. Henesler is quite pleased with Fred's condition especially when he was informed of his condition of a year ago. It was Dr. Hadland who cared for Fred a year ago and when Dr. Hadland was here a few weeks ago and saw Fred he too was pleased. (He was not here to see Fred.) So Fred is ready for his trip. He will meet his new Mom come Labor Day for the first time, but she has followed his MHR journey for the last year.

Despite efforts of keeping AJ amused with balls and such, he managed to rip Hope's fly mask off, toss it around for awhile and then give her the same opportunity. These youngsters are a riot and will keep you smiling and laughing. I am truly cherishing the moments I have with them as before too long they too will be going to their "FOREVER" homes. Hope is going to hers, and we know that there is truly going to be a special home for our AJ as well. Every horse deserves a forever home, I do hope that others will consider a rescued horse. If you are not into riding and wanting a companion and a friend, then if you can please visit a rescue near you or not so near you and make a difference in a special horses life.

Wednesday morning

Good Morning Everyone,

Well our granddaughter is settled back in Texas..sigh She was a joy to have with us, but I can assure you she ran us ragged. We really began to think our names were Hey Grandpa, Hey Grandma. I would hear it in my sleep, but I do miss her idle chatter and the way her face would light up around the horses.

While in Texas, I had the opportunity to meet with FOB, Brenda. What a wonderful woman. We enjoyed a nice dinner together. Many of you know that I sell Mary Kay, so when my daughter made the arrangements for me to bring Mina home to her, she also arranged for us to attend the Mary Kay Seminar. Wow, that was quite a treat, I learned so much and it was not just about the product, but about myself and others. I truly like Mary Kay's philosophy that she began and continues to this day, " GOD, FAMILY and CAREER." All three of these are so important in our lives. I decided in May of 2008 to begin selling Mary Kay to help subsidize income to purchase Hay for the horses. I was not sure if it would work, but I had to try and I had to believe and I do believe. I would like to make an offer..if you purchase an item from my Mary Kay website, and then you refer a friend and they make a purchase between August 6th and September 6th 2008, you will receive $10.00 off your next purchase. Also if you know someone who may be interested in being all they can be, and you feel they would be a wonderful representative for the Mary Kay company please have them contact me.

My Dream Team here at home did a wonderful job at caring for all the horses. I must extend my deepest gratitude to my Husband, Rob, my step-son Austin, Big Joe our volunteer, to our very own Diane and Shannon. To my parents for ensuring that my men did not go hungry or destroy the kitchen. To those behind the scenes, Lucy, Bev, Sheriff Susan, Ro, Mary L and Sheila for taking care of everything that you do. Thanks for the phone calls to Diane and Shannon when the cam went down and walking them through. Each and everyone of you did a GREAT JOB...THANK YOU!

To everyone that has been participating in the Ice Cream Parlor Fundraiser THANK YOU. I am still trying to catch up on emails but I will be getting that done, and you will be hearing from me...this will teach me to go away...LOL I did not have access to internet as I thought I would, so now it is catch up time.

The horses are doing great!!! We are now preparing for our annual Labor Day weekend gathering and I am excited about seeing old friends and meeting new friends. I am so happy that most of you will be able to meet our little HOPE who at this time is scheduled to depart MHR mid to late October with her soon to be new mom Lisa Leach. Also, sweet sweet Fred will be leaving MHR mid September to be with his new mom Mary Elynne Tappero. I have seen where Fred will be going to live and I want to go...LOL..it is incredible, heaven on earth. The FOBs joining us during Labor Day will have the opportunity to meet Mary Elynne as she will be joining us.

AJ was obviously happy to see me, as I stepped in the round pen he came running up to me full bore as if to say GRAMMIE!!! Such a big boy, and sweet.

Again, MANY MANY thanks to everyone for everything, because we could not do what we do for the horses without YOU!!!!!!
