Frday. July 30, 2010

Rob and I would like to say thank you to each and everyone for all your help with Katie and your emotional and moral support.

Katie, our Foal Alarm for the birth of Electra, is/was Electra's godmother. When Katie arrived she was thin and her feet in bad shape. We had x-rays done, there was hope, but after 7 months and under vet care, we lost her due to that dreaded laminitis.

There were times we saw a ray of hope and then it would be two steps back. Everything was done to keep her comfortable, and with continued hoof care it was no longer working. It was time to say goodbye. This is the part of what we do that makes it hard. But we know that Katie is no longer in pain, and she is running like the wind now. When i hear the whisper of the wind blowing through the pine trees i will think of her, when I look at Electra I will think of her. Her presence will always be with us. We as a family grieve her loss, but we must also celebrate that she is no longer in pain. She was a wonderful, kind sweet soul of a horse and deserved so much more out of her life.

She came into this world with dignity and by gosh she left with dignity and a huge family that loved her. Thank you ever so very very much, all of you rallied together as a family does and offered one another comfort. Bless you all.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - Katie

I would like to THANK everyone for your support. The vet will be here tomorrow morning at 11:30 am to give Katie her wings.

Let us remember Katie as she is today. I gave her bute again this morning, a larger dose (as prescribed by vet) to make her comfortable. She is enjoying the apples from my mother's garden. Laminitis does not care who it chooses and I hope in our lifetime this horrible disease will be cured. BLESS YOU KATIE!

Sad news about Katie

Well, I do not have good news. So shooting straight from the hip. After seven months of working with Katie and seven months of grass hay, soaking feet, shoes, no shoes, pads, no pads she has become progressively worse. The coffin bone has rotated more, and bute is no longer working. We have done everything advised by the vets, (both of them) we had verbal consultation with them and they both feel it is time to give Katie her wings.

We are asking if you can assist with vet bill (???) it would be appreciated. We know you have helped so much with our feed bill just as Rob has, but if you could see it in your heart to donate even one dollar to help her get her wings we would appreciate it. Sorry for the bad news. Not always the happiest place, reality stinks.

Thank you for your support

BB would like to say thank you for everything. Our Ladies of Liberty fundraiser is doing well. However, the cost of hay is high and if you can see in it your heart to help the horses at MHR please do. Any amount helps, as he has seen what we go through on a weekly basis. You can call SMF, make your donation and give Patti your name and address and a tax deductible receipt will be sent your way. Also, you may PayPal your donation as well. SMF number is 775-727-5527, they are open Monday through Saturday. Thank you for your support to the horses at Miracle Horse Rescue!
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

First we would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for our organization in the Chase contest. Congratulations to the winners!

Thank you all for your participation in the wonderful "Ladies of Liberty" fundraiser for the horses. It is great! Each of you makes such a positive difference in the lives of horses in need. THANK YOU!

Little or not-so-Little Electra Glide, will be three months old on July 19th. We are fast approaching her weaning, and she is still seeking her forever home. She is a lovely little girl. She will be weaned August 19th, at her four month B-day.

The Ladies of Liberty fundraiser is a wonderful tribute and thank you to everyone, Bev, Lucy, Sheriff, Ro and Sheila. It is beautiful!!

*****************************************************

The dynamics of our horses in the FB Field and Ladies Parlour. One of the things I enjoy doing in the evening is watching the horses and their behavior with one another. You learn so much.

In the FB they are paired up during the day Levi/Jocori, Simba Marie/Old Man, JD/Silky, Jo/HalfMoon and all is well. But it is funny how things change when it is feeding time. They go from hanging together to becoming aggressive. It is a matter of survival of the fittest. They will chase each other off of food, hence the reason we place a lot more food out there so no one goes without. Once they have finished, then it is back to normal.

The Ladies Parlour it is Whiskey/Cosmo, Trooper/Glory, Dublin/Jerri, and again it is the same thing. However there is one exception. The two that have the most harmonious relationship are Jerri and Dublin. They eat together at each meal, they do not bicker, they wander together and are very content.

It is just very interesting to watch. You learn so much by just watching them, and their interfacing through the course of the day. I know they teach me something new everyday. Watching them play is another learning experience, and shows how intelligent they are.

I wanted to share what I watch during the evening hours, it makes for excellent entertainment, plus a learning experience. Insight into the horses world. Truly amazing.

Everyone have a wonderful day! Thank you again for the "Ladies of Liberty" fundraiser! It is individuals such as yourself that make a difference in the lives of the horses at Miracle Horse Rescue.
