Part of rescue is the sadness that is encountered with our efforts.

It is with heavy heart that I must inform you that our little Hagan passed in her sleep sometime during the early hours of the morning. She ate dinner last night, and all was well.

Hagan was 42 yrs old.

Photos from LindaNV

Linda and Roger visited from Las Vegas over the weekend. From Linda:

My pics of Electra and Charity didn't turn out so well. Charity kept Electra in the shade and my photos are just too dark to see Electra's beautiful sweet face. So how about some photos of the first babies born at MHR?

Whatever you do, don't ever fall for that "I'm so sweet, shy and innocent look! :)
Hay everbuddy! Remember me? I'm doing my mommy proud....

Uncle Spirit taught me this trick. Look into my eyes and as you are spellbound, I wll unchain the gate....
Ewtie - Pleeeeze take me home with you. That little Truffles is on my last nerve.
on't believe a word they say about me.....
I am smitten with Phyllis......

Roger having a great time with BC and Candy.

Frank and Shhhhh

Friends come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and accept one another no matter what they look like or what they do.

Here is Frank with his new friend "Shhhhh." Life is good, and Frank does not care if he is woolly or has long ears. If more people were accepting of each other as they generally are in the animal kingdom, what a wonderful world it would be!

Pictures of Charity and Electra, 4/25/10

Would someone tell me why this thing keeps wiggling around?
Did I give you permission to look at me?
To drink or not to drink that is the question
Mom would you just chill out, its just the papparazzi...sheesh
Just ignore them and they will go away!
Look mom I can use this thing as a pointer
I must see my hairdresser to get this grey out
Can't a girl eat in peace?

Emmett, 4/25/10

This is Emmett, a 25 plus yr old QH, who suffered a stroke three yrs ago. These are just two of the wash racks, the hitching post is in between and is 24' long and on the other side are two more racks. It is safe for both humans and horses. 5,200lbs of concrete were utilized, one 60lb bag at a time. The weather has been averaging 70-80 degrees which is nothing, but we need to get all excess hair off them. Robert and I will be putting all shade material in the areas that it needs to go and we will be setting the poles ourselves. We have over 500' of shade to set up. Once the shade is up and the horses have the option to go under it or not, I will take a picture of them standing in the sun.

Charity update, 4/21/10

Stephanie asked me to give you this update on Charity:

She had a good, productive night. Lots of output. She's not real happy with her diet of Sr. Equine and canola oil. Dr. Hadland is pleased with her progress and said to switch her diet to bran soaked in warm water with a little Sr. added. Stephanie is also to feed a small amount of hay to Charity every hour.

Keep your fingers crossed that the good news continues!

Charity update, 2:34pm,. 4/20/10

We have placed another call into Dr. Hadland. Charity has not had a bowel movement and he said that he would come back and perform a rectal on her. We need to have this done to ensure there is nothing else going on. Wanted to keep you informed.

Update on Charity and Electra, 4/20/10

Dr. Adam visited Charity and Electra yesterday. He came out because Charity was slow in completely expelling the afterbirth. As luck would have it, she did finally do it on her own about four minutes before he arrived.

Today, we've had to call him again because Charity was exhibiting signs of foal colic, a very common condition in mares who have just foaled. Dr. Adam gave her a shot of banamine and tubed her with a solution of warm water and electrolytes. We are monitoring her condition and he will be called again later this afternoon if she hasn't improved.

On a brighter note, Gail, our friend from Las Vegas, took this video of Charity and Electra when she visited yesterday:

Charity update, 7:30 p.m., 4/18/10

Here is what the teletata Lens picked up this evening. The waxing and dripping started this morning @ 7:15am

Top 10 excuses why Charity hasn't foaled

SusanE830 is one of the most clever and creative people on our thread at ABR. Here's her latest Top 10 list

CHARITY'S TOP TEN EXCUSES FOR NOT FOALING YET

AS OF APRIL 18, 2010

10. I'm holding out till they guarantee an epidural

9. I can't get comfortable enough to foal unless the chickens come in and fluff my bedding

8. No one has satisfied my repeated demands for a KFC Double Down--hello, people, have you never heard of pregnancy cravings??!!

7. DJ keeps staring at me, if you know what I mean

6. Something has happened to my tail and I'm so big I can't look back to see what's wrong!

5. I'd like to pop this foal out, believe me, but it's barricaded itself in there until the recession is over

4. I am having too much fun messing with your minds

3. I was going to foal this weekend, I swear it, but there's too much volcano ash in the air

2. Ha! If YOU had a 120-plus pounds of legs, hooves and head coming out YOUR vagaga, would you be in such a hurry??! I think not!

AND CHARITY'S NUMBER ONE EXCUSE FOR NOT FOALING YET

AS OF APRIL 18, 2010:

1. The General is right--there really is an elephant in there!

Justice, 4/18/10

Here is Justice learning to walk in and out of wash rack. All new learning experience, in and out in and out. He did pretty well, he also had his feet done as well. No bath but a good grooming.

Remember how little he was?

Charity update, 7:50am April 18

At this morning's feeding 7:15am (Charity is the last one I feed) for what it is worth, as we all know these mares do things their way, we have dripping milk.

Better get your guesses into Ro and Brady, I am not even gonna give a guess. "Life is like a box of Chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." In this case, Life is like Charity: you never know when she wants Harley C. or Electra to make his/her appearance.

Sunday, April 18, 2010

Good morning everyone,

I sure wish I could give you all some different news regarding the status of her Billowiness but those who are watching the cam can see "No Baby Horse for Yewwwww" yet.....

I took her for a walk yesterday so she the chance to get out for a bit. From there we went back to the maternity wing and she received a grooming. I have managed to groom her tail out which was a big step for Charity. This was the second time, and she was much more relaxed.

I groomed Little Bear, Rosie and Misty. LB is really shedding, he now does not look like a wooley mammoth. Rosie and Misty just enjoyed.

I would like to thank Crystal and Gail for all the bathing and grooming they have done over the last two weekends. Everyone in the Ladies Parlour has been done with the exception of Jerri who will have NO part of this silliness. Besides we do not think she would even fit in the wash rack if you could catch her up. Feed me treats but do not touch me is her motto.

Rob has done a wonderful job with the wash racks and hitching post. Everything is set up in concrete with slabs for them to stand on as well as an area for humans to stand on. We now need to get some gravel for drainage to set around the area but all in due time as other projects must be done. We have done so much in 6 months, which took us six yrs at our last home..so we are working daily with the improvements.

We wish everyone a wonderful Sunday!

Stephanie and Rob
