Happy trails, BB!

The time has come for Beanie Barbaro to leave for the next stop on his tour. We've enjoyed having him here very much.

BB relaxing on the beautiful quilt made by our very own FOB Peggi Loveless

BB in one of the wash racks in preparation for his trip across the U.S.

BB bidding farewell to the Football Field

BB wishing 3 month old Electra Glide (named by Linda Hayte) the very best in her finding that special FOREVER home
Under the blue skies, mountains and pine trees BB says Adios to the Ladies Parlour (named by Beverly Young) and thanks them for their hospitality.

BB hanging around the Ladies Parlour just a bit longer

Spirit wuffling his goodbyes between mouthfuls of hay

Jerri (Former PMU rescued by FOBs from Canada and mother of Hope) thanking BB for his Legacy as it is because of him that she and her foal are alive today.

Glory and Trooper keeping their heads down and eyes closed as they did not want BB to see their tears of joy mixed with sadness. They enjoyed his visit, and his Legacy! Glory (named by FOB Gloria Nussbaum) was rescued by FOBs October 8th, 2006 as a weanling from auction.

Are you sure these are 100 lb bales? No matter, I will eat my way to the bottom

Do you think they'll let me drive?

Ahhh, Pedicure time!

Can you take a little off the left please?

Do these shoes make my feet look big??

BB enjoyed this visit...food galore!

BB visiting baby peeps and getting a drink of water

The SMF work crew, and our dear friend Patti (owner)

BB sitting on the fave stool of the store

BB would like to say thank you for everything. Our Ladies of Liberty fundraiser is doing well. However, the cost of hay is high and if you can see in it your heart to help the horses at MHR please do. Any amount helps, as he has seen what we go through on a weekly basis. You can call SMF, make your donation and give Patti your name and address and a tax deductible receipt will be sent your way. Also, you may PayPal your donation as well. SMF number is 775-727-5527, they are open Monday through Saturday. Thank you for your support to the horses at Miracle Horse Rescue!
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

The Ladies of Liberty fundraiser is a wonderful tribute and thank you to everyone, Bev, Lucy, Sheriff, Ro and Sheila. It is beautiful!!

*****************************************************

The dynamics of our horses in the FB Field and Ladies Parlour. One of the things I enjoy doing in the evening is watching the horses and their behavior with one another. You learn so much.

In the FB they are paired up during the day Levi/Jocori, Simba Marie/Old Man, JD/Silky, Jo/HalfMoon and all is well. But it is funny how things change when it is feeding time. They go from hanging together to becoming aggressive. It is a matter of survival of the fittest. They will chase each other off of food, hence the reason we place a lot more food out there so no one goes without. Once they have finished, then it is back to normal.

The Ladies Parlour it is Whiskey/Cosmo, Trooper/Glory, Dublin/Jerri, and again it is the same thing. However there is one exception. The two that have the most harmonious relationship are Jerri and Dublin. They eat together at each meal, they do not bicker, they wander together and are very content.

It is just very interesting to watch. You learn so much by just watching them, and their interfacing through the course of the day. I know they teach me something new everyday. Watching them play is another learning experience, and shows how intelligent they are.

I wanted to share what I watch during the evening hours, it makes for excellent entertainment, plus a learning experience. Insight into the horses world. Truly amazing.

Everyone have a wonderful day! Thank you again for the "Ladies of Liberty" fundraiser! It is individuals such as yourself that make a difference in the lives of the horses at Miracle Horse Rescue.

Meet Morty the fly killer

This is Morty aka Gizmo the Epps Fly system in the process of being remodeled. Rob has had to refab him due to our winds and to make him more portable. He does not have his skin on yet because he needs stronger zip ties. He will be more portable now being on the trailer and we can move him anywhere we want without constantly having to pull t-posts out of the ground.

Thank you to everyone for his being here. Once he is totally done I will take another picture.

Good Tuesday Morning,

We hope that this finds everyone well. We have been busy over the last few days and contending with the winds. When you think it's not going to happen, the weatherman comes on and tells us "Surprise!" Winds will start this afternoon, and we will have strong gusts tomorrow and Thursday. We cannot battle mother nature, she is a very independent woman and makes her own choices.

Yesterday, we expanded Charity and Electra's stall while they were in the round pen. Electra just napped in the sun while in rp. When they were returned to their stall Electra had her first hoof trim. She stood beautifully. Once she was released, she did her zooming around the new configuration. I am now able to just walk up to Charity without a lead rope and pet her without her running away. Guess the term Patience is a Virtue comes into play with her. She is very very sweet.

Katie is doing so much better and is really maintaining very well. Candy is now being fostered and is probably going to be adopted. She was sent to this family to keep their other horse company as they lost their old guy this past Sunday to laminitis. He was recovering and it was an on again, off again situation. However, on Sunday he took a major turn for the worse. He was humanely put down.

We thank everyone who is helping the horses at MHR with our "HAY FEVER" fundraiser.

We would like to wish everyone a wonderful day!

Good Morning to Everyone,

It has been busy around MHR, we have been feeding, watering and mucking and feeding watering and mucking....you get the gist. That is just the beginning.

We put fly masks on everyone that is in stalls. The Ladies Parlour and the Football Field will not have the problem that horses in stalls have. We moved the two round pens to the back so that they can be utilized more. We have also been pulling weeds that have been popping up to keep things neat. Our goal is to plant more trees on the property when we can.

We would like to Congratulate Cathy Potter for her story on Cloud!! We are ever so grateful because her winning 1st place with 9 others has earned MHR's horses $2,500.00! This is wonderful and will purchase HAY for one month. Her story is amazing, and Cloud is very lucky to have her as his mom. It is very true that one person can make a difference.

We would also like to thank everyone for the participation in our HAY FEVER fundraiser. Each of you, for the good you do for the horses makes a huge difference. You are a blessing to our horses.

We wish everyone a wonderful week and be safe!

Sunday, June 6, 2010... Great News!

So happy to share this wonderful news with you all. Our great friend and original supporter, CathyP, submitted a story for consideration in a recent contest on facebook. She won! And...she's donating the $2500 prize to MHR! We can't thank you enough, Cathy! You are the best!

Here's the story Cathy wrote. It says it all:

Allow me to introduce my great big puppy dog Cloud; he’s not just another “rescue”. You see, Cloud was on his way to become a very expensive meal on a dinner plate in Europe or Asia. Cloud was on his way to the slaughter house because horse meat is a delicacy overseas. He wasn’t lame, infirm, or hard to handle, which a...re the usual excuses. His flaw was that his useful life as a pack horse was over. His reward for service, a horrible ride in an overstuffed cattle truck, without food & water, to a horse slaughter plant. That’s right; we send horses to slaughter for human consumption. It’s a dirty little secret in a dark world of human predators known as kill buyers. Most horses that go to slaughter are young, healthy horses that have been tossed aside. Why do their owners choose this option to dispose of their unwanted horses? Greed is the answer. Why pay a vet to come & euthanize when there are kill buyers waiting with cash in hand?Cloud was 1 day from the slaughter truck. Enter Stephanie Pierce, Founder of Miracle Horse Rescue in Parhump, NV. Stephanie was on her way to Oregon to try to save a few horses from the horror. She received a call about Cloud & asked if she would she like to buy him? If not he would be on the next truck. Cloud was lucky that day because the truck he was to go out on was full. 1 day reprieve saved his life. Stephanie ended up saving several lives that week bringing home Cloud, & several others. My first visit to Miracle Horse Rescue I met Cloud & it was love at first sight. My second visit was adoption day. I signed a contract & he became my horse. I traveled the desert highway every other weekend to visit my boy & volunteer at the rescue. I fell in love with these animals, which had previously been abused, starved, injured & then thrown away. Stephanie, with husband Rob who is a very talented farrier, brings them back to health & to life. I’ve witnessed it time & time again. To meet the horses of MHR you would never know of the abuse suffered. With a steady diet of good nutrition, trust & love, they seem to understand they are no longer in jeopardy & the horses transform. A few years ago, Stephanie’s path moved in a direction related to the PMU Industry. PMU stands for Pregnant Mare Urine which is harvested from the mares by companies like Wyeth Industries, to make HRT drugs known as Premarin & Prempro. The mares are kept pregnant because of the estrogen rich urine. They are hooked up to plumbing, confined to a small area while the urine is harvested. Often, when their useful life is over, off to slaughter they go. Their foals are stripped away & often sent to slaughter as well. Stephanie decided it was time to make a statement about this horrid industry & began adopting the pregnant mares. She has successfully delivered 4 healthy foals from these mares with successful adoptions of 3 babies. To run a rescue with 30-40 horses on sight at any given time is very expensive. Fortunately Rob donates his services as a Farrier but hay alone to feed them is a huge expense. Many of the horses have special needs or require dietary supplements. In this economy adoptions are scarce & donations are down significantly. Those involved with the fundraising process are very creative in developing different themes monthly but the funds never cover the expenses or unexpected Vet bill. I’ve never met anyone more dedicated & selfless than Stephanie Pierce. Her life is dedicated to these horses. Not only does she provide sanctuary but also the love & care to gain their confidence back. They never go without. As Stephanie says, the horses will eat before they do. Miracle Horse Rescue Inc. is a federally-recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization which is dedicated to the preservation and welfare of abused, neglected and unwanted domesticated horses of all types and conditions. Please visit their website http://www.miraclehorse.com/ And visit the live cam on JustinTV to view the newest foal born to a former PMU mare just a few short weeks ago.

Cathy, once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! This means so very much to us, and most especially, to the horses!

Good Morning All,

It is truly a very special day! Justice was born on this day one year ago. He is the foal of the fourth PMU mare rescued by FOBs and Special Friends.....FAITH. It would not have been possible if not for all of you.

Justice is growing into a magnificent looking horse. He is bright and willing to learn. At six hours old he took his first walk all by himself.

Oh what a day that was. We watched his mother and him bond and grow. It was simply amazing.

Thank you all very much for your continued support...it is all of you who make it possible on a daily basis to care for the horses at Miracle Horse Rescue.

Good Morning Everyone,

It was a wonderful weekend! We had a great anniversary. Thank you all for the e-cards and of course the beautiful cake and pie Lucy!

The horses are all doing well. Electra now talks when it comes feeding time. How quickly they learn from others. I do hope you enjoyed the pics and video of her. She is very charming and sweet. Very very curious. Charity is doing great! She is an excellent mother. In fact, all of the horses are doing great..knock on wood. No issues or problems is a true blessing. A day without a vet is a GOOD DAY!

We hope you all have a wonderful and safe week! Don't forget to bid on this item, it is a beautiful photograph and it is signed by Barbara Livingston. Just beautiful.

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes!!!!

Rob and feel that we are blessed to have found one another. We were married 11 years ago today, and we began an exciting journey in our lives, with many many trials and tribulations, but through it all we have stood by one another. The one thing we have is honesty between one another and communication. We have always made plans together, one always knowing what the other was doing. No secrets. One of the many reasons our marriage has been successful is the open line of communication in every aspect of our marriage as well as lives. We know what the other is doing...we do have a bond. There have been individuals through the eleven years that did not understand what we had, and have even made attempts to destroy what we had and we laugh in their face. It's truly a shame that they just don't "GET IT." Well, here we are eleven years later continuing to walk down our path, hand in hand, loving one another and living the dream of a successful marriage and life, doing what we love and standing by one another through thick and thin.

Again many many Thanks for Your wonderful wishes!!!!!!

It has been a good day. Busy but good. I had the opportunity to sit in the chair in Electra and Charity's stall. Of course Charity was a bit snorty, but Electra was like hey whats that?? She came over for skirtches and then just kind of hung around. If I moved the chair she would move too. Charity actually came over as well figuring if her daughter could do it why not her.

Crystal and Gail were here pretty much all day, helping with anything they could plus enjoying their own horses. They stayed for dinner and we had a wonderful time. Next time you all talk to Gail on chat, ask her how she samples sauce.

It was a good day, and I want to say Thank You all for everything! Have a wonderful weekend all. Be safe everyone!!!!!

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Good Morning Everyone,

It has been a miserable few days with the wind and the dust. But that is what we must endure living in the desert. However, per our weatherman our temps have been really mild, in fact he stated in ref: to yesterdays temps it was like February weather not May.

Justice is doing very very well, getting to be such a big boy. He is easy to handle, gets a bit excited when he sees something new but that is to be expected. For the most part nothing fazes him. He is now approximately 14 plus hands and not even a year old close but not yet...not until the 25th. :)

Electra and Charity are both doing so so well. Electra is a little charm, and at her age wonderful to handle. We are taking everything very slowly with her. She is so curious, her little nose feels like velvet and her coat like soft wool. Just too cute.

All else is well here, we are suppose to have more winds today, NW gusts up to 20 mph but that is nothing compared to what we have had.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Stephanie and Rob

Wednesday morning, May 5, 2010

Good Morning All.

I can assure you all yesterday was a very special day. After the loss of our dear sweet Hagan, the birth of Electra (a good thing) and just some of the day to day stresses, visiting with the baby goats was a wonderful treat.

Those babies were so sweet and let me tell you quite quick. But never fearful. You would touch them and they would bound away, but turn back and look at you like well are you coming after me?? They were born two weeks ago and of course they have been getting lots of cuddles from everyone.

Yesterday evening when I fed Charity and Electra, I decided to go hang out with them. Well, Electra treated me with nose touches and she was given lots of skirtches. Charity continued eating with no concerns. So I sat there on the ground loving on this little long eyelashed beauty. When I was leaving, she was doing little rear ups and some tiny bucks next to her mom as if saying " Did you see what I did mom" Whoo Hoo.

Thank you to each and everyone of you from the front of the scenes to those that are behind the scenes for everything and I mean everything you do. You make such a difference. You are a group of women and gentleman with so much class, and graciousness.

Stephanie and Rob

A special treat, 5/4/10

Well, I went to work with Rob today. We had a wonderful time together as always laughing about things from the past, the present and the future during our drive. But he took me for a special reason...he wanted me to witness an awesome sight, which I will now share with you.

Triplet Pygoras
Hey Lady and Guy what are you looking at?
Are we not too cute for our own good?

The Miracle of Life, and the joys all of our furbabies give to us. This little one had no fear whatsoever. Was just loving the touch and skirtches, and kisses.

Frankly Speaking, May 3, 2010

Greetings from Frankie.

He's wearing sports medicine boots on all four corners. He has these on so he'll be used to anything and everything if the occasion arises.

Thank you all for your questions. I'll be answering as time allows. The first question is from Linda:
I would like to know the steps you take to evaluate a horse to determine what the horse should be trained for
Hi Linda,

Thanks for the question. The truth for me is I let the horse show me where his/her interest and strengths lie. When I used to train, people would bring me their horses and say: I want you to make a head horse or a heel horse out of him/her. I would never agree to their requests until i spent time with that particular animal. Just because a person heads or heels doesn't mean the horse they currently have is going to be the best candidate for them as a mount or for the job they want the horse to do. I used the example of rope horses; however it applies to all disciplines. Yes the physical characteristics of the animal can be an advantage or a limitation, which definitely has to be considered. However if the heart isn't into it or the mind can't comprehend it, it will never work out, no matter how good it looks on paper. Speculation is extremely difficult and most trainers that I work with will never guarantee anything. All they'll do is see if there's any interest and talent in that particular discipline. I hope this answers your question.

Happy trails!
