Good Morning

Good Morning All,

Another beautiful sunny day. It has been so pretty, the feel of spring is in the air.

Several of the horses are beginning to blow their coats. I hope that the weather stays this way. Carolyn was here yesterday and she worked her regular horses here at the ranch. I was out doing water barrels. The BBG's drink a WHOLE lot of water, the are already drinking 1.5 barrels, I can only imagine what it is going to be like during the summer. That's okay, we want them all to drink plenty of water.

Today, my job is going to be picking up the piles I raked yesterday, and get everything cleaned up...again. :) It is a daily chore, but one that I can say allows you to just think and get exercise all in one. Mmmmm, do we now have a marketable exercise program? We can call it "SCOOP THE POOP" all done to your favorite tunes.

You can just picture someone scooping the poop and all the horses lined up behind you moving side to side, heads bobbing, legs crossing, tails swishing, and them all WhooHooing!

Thus far all is well, DJ has not let out the sentry alarm, so we know that everyone is in their appropriate stalls and vicinity..which is a good thing.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful day, and remember to tell someone you love them. Also remember, I will be "Scoopin' the Poop"...to be released on video at a later date....LOL

Rebellion at the ranch

This morning when I rounded the corner of the house to go out to the back to feed, lo and behold a herd of horses in Jonah's pen, minus Jonah.

There's never a dull moment around the ranch. Jonah had opened his gate. He or one of his buddies assisted him in removing the chain and clasp. I cannot find the chain anywhere.

While his buddies all crowded into his pen, he ambled out to the football field and spent a little quiet time with Rosie. Do you think he's sending us a message?

Wuffle wuffle

This morning's feeding brought tears to my eyes.....

Jerri wuffled at me for her food, and stood there waiting for me to place it in her feed barrel. This is a positive move for Jerri and I was elated. This comes from a horse who when you initially approached her stall would go to the back and stare at you.

Apple was busy pawing her panels and the ground...tap, tap, tap, tossing her blond mane and rolling her big beautiful eyes. Uh food over here, snap, snap! She loves the attention and is letting us know her food is the most important thing in her life...lol

Nellie this morning stood by her feed barrel and I think but I am not sure but a tiny little nicker escaped her. She DID NOT move away either. WhooHooo!

Progress no matter how small a step is taken, it is still progress. I know that I keep posting of the small things in their lives, but it is very very important for them.

A little bit more of Himself

Baby B's in the round pen and he doesn't like it.

Thursday evening

Jerri, Apple and Nellie are doing very good. Jerri now comes to her feeder and does not shy away when her feed is being placed in the feeder. Apple aka Plunger Lips is very social whether feeding or not..extremely food motivated and quite animated. Nellie still is a bit nervous, but once her food is in the feeder she walks over and begins eating, just do not look at her..lol.

Nellie has very soft eyes and I can tell that eventually she will be a very sweet girl. I just wish there was a way I could reassure her. She seems to lacking confidence which is sad.

Jerri's eyes have not softened yet, but she has moments when she lets her guard down and relaxes. All of this is new to them, and I know that one day they will understand that we are here for them and we will keep them safe, loved and healthy to the very best of our ability.

I am truly enjoying them and they are such good listeners.

I look forward to seeing Big Boned Babies...very exciting, and a guessing game at this point. I am going to snail mail the former owner and hopefully, maybe, possibly he can give us a closer date as to when or if they were for sure covered. If only one of the girls is in foal, thats okay, because we know that they are safe with us and they will not be at risk of being sent to slaughter. I pray passes the anti-slaughter bill passes, and that the ban of transport across the borders will pass as well.

Let us make our calls and faxes, let's help all the horses and speak out for them!

Good Morning Everyone,

All is well here. We heard of the earthquake in Wells early this morning on the news. I do hope everyone in the area of it is safe. My sister lives in West Point Utah, and she is only about I believe but do not quote me on it, approximately an hour and a half from Wells. Have not heard from her yet.

It is a pretty morning here, sunshine compared to yesterday's drizzling rain. Our winter has been very odd compared to what we have had in the past.

All of the horses are doing well this morning. They are quiet and content. Thus far Baby B and Spirit are even quiet. They are not raising cain with each other this morning as normal.

I tried once again to download the Valentine video, it did not happen. I even have had to shorten it making it a two part video and it still did not upload. It is beginning to aggravate me. I will see what else I can do to make it work. Very very frustrating.

The BBG's are beginning to shed some hair, of course this must be like tropical weather to them. Everyone else still is keeping their coats. I look forward to Spring as I love to shed the horses out. I also am excited to see what we have when Baby B blows her coat. All the horses are just beautimous, whether they are hairy or slick.

Emmett is becoming very very vocal at feeding time, wow you just would not believe it. He came to the ranch so quiet and now he is letting himself be heard. He is so sweet, and when you give a treat by hand (I know we are not suppose to do this) you also get a handful of his tongue. Makes me giggle at the feel. But he loves everything that is put in front of him.

Well, I guess I had better get motivated as the kids will be sounding off in about 30 minutes and they can make a racket...gotta LUB them.

Have a blessed and safe day....and know that you are all special to me.

Theresa and Jerri

Theresa and Jerri seem to be developing a buddy-ship! Quite a bit of difference in Jerri's body language since she arrived.

You can watch the video at YouTube.

Happy President's Day

Jerri, Apple and Nellie are doing real well, as are all the MHR horses. We're now dropping their treats in the feed buckets as Apple has become a bit too demanding in this area. She expects treats when she sees you.

I am guilty of giving all the horses treats by hand, but it is not the best practice to have. So for safety reasons we're going to give treats that way from this day forward.

They are all three coming along, but there is still much work to be done with them. One of our visitors, Diane, was watching Nellie on Saturday and was excited to tell me she saw Nellie's baby moving. Going to be a very exciting time for MHR; love all the horses but gotta love the babies..

Hope everyone has a blessed and safe day. Today will be picture/video taking day. Our Valentine's Day celebration was delayed because of strong wind. Not today!

Friday update

Good Friday Evening All,

I am seeing some difference in Nellie's and Apple's tummies, they are getting larger and rounder from side to side. Jerri is a bit harder to tell, only because she never stands still long enough to get a good look. All three are doing real well. Jerri is not moving away quite as much during feeding time, she comes directly to her feeder once food is poured in. However, try just to get her to stand so you can look at her and it is not going to happen.

Apple of course is the queen of food...lol...it is a constant "Please Sir May I have some more?" Sweet sweet girl.

Nellie is still a bit skittish during food pouring, but is better about standing in a spot while you approach the stall. I think they are slowly coming around.

It will happen..I know it will.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. Thanks to your very generous contributions, all the horses (including Emmett) are getting their Valentine cookies today. We'll be taking pictures and posting here, so be sure to check back.

Rob's mother, Irma, passed away on February 11. She was surrounded by her loving family and passed peacefully. Thank you for your concern and support.

New arrival at MHR

We have a new resident at MHR. Please meet Emmett:

Emmett is a 26 yo (approx) QH gelding. Emmett was adopted from MHR 3 or 4 years ago and has been returned by his family because of financial difficulties. Emmett had a ring bone problem which has fused, but he recently had a stroke (you can see the effects of that in the second picture), so he's going on the permanent list. Welcome Emmett!

JAN Progress Report

Jerri, Apple and Nellie are coming along a lot better than I anticipated in such a short time.

Nellie is timid but quite curious. She watches everything you are doing. If you approach her stall she will move away from you, however if you stand there long enough she will come over but will stay out of arms length.

Jerri is going to take a great deal more time. She does not trust and it is by the grace of God that she allowed Theresa and Joseph their few minutes to hold her and pet her. For a brief few moments she relaxed when they were petting her, but you could see fear in her eyes as if she was waiting for something bad to happen. Sad.

Then there is Apple the Mooch. Apple loves attention and wants it all. What a personality this girl has. Very loving and VERRRYYYY food or shall I say treat motivated. She wants all the attention and she wants it all for herself. She expects you to have goodies in your hand. She wuffles at you in a very deep voice and it begins as you walk out the back door and she sees you...very funny.

It has been a short time since their arrival but we believe we have made excellent progress.

Video of Jerri and Theresa

Theresa is Joe's wife and is a very brave person! Video taken February 2, 2008. Jerri loves those Tumbleweeds.

And then there was Jerri...

Jerri is a lot more reluctant than Apple and Nellie have been. This is real progress, although it was a quick session which she ended rather emphatically. No new halter for Jerri yet.

Nellie gets a new halter!

Big day today! Joseph was able to take Nellie's old halter off and replace it with a new one. Her old life is now officially over. Jerri isn't cooperating yet, but it's only been two weeks. Who can resist Joseph?
