Last year we were blessed with the opportunity to help three PMU Mares, Jerri, Apple and Nellie, and their unborn foals. It was both a sad time and a happy time as well. We learned a great deal from this journey as did many other rescuers/adopters of PMU Mares.
The two foals, Hope and AJ, had a good start in their young lives, and have since been adopted by FOB LisainCO, who continues to provide the start and the care these youngsters need and so justly deserve. She is doing an outstanding job and we thank her for this as Lisa “Gets It”. Their mothers have remained at MHR receiving the care they so justly deserve as well, and have quite a following.
The plight of the PMU Mare is heart wrenching as to the inhumane treatment they must endure on a daily basis. Once they are no longer producers, they are cast aside like an old shoe and sent to auction their fate unknown……
Once again we are being blessed with being able to help another PMU mare. This brings me to Faith’s rescuers, and there are several. They chose Faith over many other PMU mares as Faith in their eyes was the most needy. Though we would have loved to have rescued more we do not have the room nor the financial means to accommodate more than one. Faith was on the PMU Line, and once again was bred despite having a bad back. Faith is a very lucky mare that her rescuers recognized her need to be saved.
She departs Bottineau, ND on Monday, March 16th, 2009 along with 10 other PMU mares that have been saved by various individuals. Miracle Horse Rescue will be the first stop on this journey. We were informed that she was moved closer to the barn area and has been receiving extra feed and does appear to be in foal. This information has been provided to our source from the rancher who bred her again despite the knowledge of her bad back and who used her on the PMU line in the PAST.
Faith is due to foal end of May or early June. We have a short window, but we will provide her with everything that will be prescribed to her via our Veterinarian for a healthy mother and foal.
