Photos from Linda Hayte

Text and photos from Linda, who visited last weekend:

*************************************

I thought you all would be interested in little anecdotes/observations I had from this weekend at the ranch.

The terrible two
I was filling water barrels, 2-3 at a time and going from barrel to barrel and back again. I put the hose in Faith’s then Glory and JD’s. I went back to Faith’s and saw Glory’s head pop over the back of their stall. No JD in sight. Then I heard DJ squeal. I ran over and found JD had stolen the hose and was trying to spray DJ. I got the hose back from JD (yes, I got wet too). I put the hose back in their barrel and instructed both to behave (sigh). Went back over to Faith and there was JD’s head over the stall. I knew then that Glory was at it this time. So, I had to go back to them and stand there until their barrel was full.

Half Moon
I was taking pictures of Emmett and Buttercup when all of a sudden I felt a weight on my shoulder. It was Half Moon. He turned his forehead close to me and started nuzzling. So of course I kissed him. He nuzzled more so I kissed him more. I looked at his eyes and there was a softness there that I hadn’t seen before. Every time I was by his stall I looked at his eyes and they were like that every time. I talked to Rob about it later and he said that he had seen changes in Half Moon lately that he attributed to Stephanie’s care. He is definitely a different horse than I had seen any other time I had been there.

Emmett and Buttercup

These two are quite the odd couple. Buttercup defers to Emmett rather than challenge him and he enjoys that. When I was cleaning/filling their water barrel, Emmett wanted to know exactly what I was doing. And comment on it. He wanted to be loved on and of course, I did that. Apparently he enjoyed it so much that the following day when walking around I found that he had pooped in the barrel. So, it was dumped and cleaned again, all the while being ordered to love on him again.

Apple and Jerri

These two are amazing. From them grooming each other to coming right up to the rail to check on carrots they were easy going and happy. They spend quite a bit of time visiting with various members of the football team (Trooper and Dublin in particular). Altho I didn’t see it, Stephanie said that the football team also helps with grooming. I just saw them all visiting and no altercations. Jerri’s eyes have softened so much! When CathyP and I were scrubbing their water barrel they were interested but not frightened. It was pure joy to see Jerri like that.
