Hello Everyone,

Sunday was a very long day!

Want to let you know that Grace's parents lost their jobs, so Grace has been returned to MHR per our contract. She is in excellent condition. They wanted to return her as they knew that they would have limited funding, and they have a family which they knew would have to be cared for first, and it would be best if she came home. She was returned 5:45pm Sunday evening. She is in a stall between B and Rosie right now.

Three and a half years ago, I lost my rescued horse Sierra to Laminitis. She was my dream horse. But being a rescue she came to us with many problems and her feet were the primary one. We managed to get her sound for awhile. I took her to a horse show and we took 1st place in Obstacle and a 2nd in Western Pleasure. After that show she was semi retired and I would light ride her twice a week. She was my dream and my love. Unfortunately dreams are sometimes taken away, and I lost her in 2007 despite all efforts. Laminitis took her from me. She was otherwise a very healthy horse. I never thought I would give my heart like I did to her, but in comes Justice. Justice has several years to go before riding. But I love him all the same. However, on 9/17/10 good friends of our presented me with a gift, as they knew the story of Sierra.

Everyone, let me introduce to Violette, 8 yr old Paint Mare, she has my heart but I have plenty of love to share between the both of them. She is a beautiful gift!

They are doing well, and once I get another battery I will take more pics.

Sophie is doing well today, ate all of her feed and had a chaser of Chasteberry juice. lol. Gave the lip and all. Must have been yucky. Again all this will do is curtail symptoms of Cushings but does not cure it. There is no cure for Cushings.

Electra let me anger her hernia today with zero problems whatsoever. She seems to enjoy the manipulation. She stands there and starts with the ant eater lip, sticking out as far as it can go. I think the best times for me to do this is at each feeding and maybe in between. If we can avoid surgery that is what we want to do by all means.

I went with Rob this morning so he could trim one itty bitty mini. Actually the mini is a Dwarf. They have so many issues, they just do not develop correctly. The cards are stacked against them. But let me introduce you to Lil Pearl, all 22 inches of her. Sweet little girl, she is two yrs old

The highlight of the morning though, was I got to see "PORKY" the worlds largest rodent. A Capybara, a little rodent from Venezuela. Phewww, smelly little critter, never know what you will see in our neck of the woods. Quite interesting, would I want one? No way, No how! He would be sitting around going "HERE KITTY KITTY!"

So that has been my morning.

All of the horses are doing well.

Medical report on Sophie and Electra

Today 9/15/10 Dr. Hadland was out to examine Sophie and Electra.

Sophie has been diagnosed with Cushings Disease. She has all the classic signs. We are fortunate that she does not have laminitis. He has determined that Sophie is well into her years (VERY long in the tooth). The medications for the treatment of Cushings would cost MHR several hundreds of dollars per month. He stated he would like to go with a natural medication called Chasteberry (Vitex) 15g per day. Cushings is not curable, it can only be controlled. She is presently receiving a pelletized feed, along with Senior. He wants to add rice bran, for the fat content. She also receives hay for something to do. If anyone wishes to help Sophie it is greatly appreciated

Hope you all had a good Labor Day weekend.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our daughter-in-law Theresa!

Our prayers to all who are having health issues during this time. Our prayers to everyone who are enduring difficult times. Give us the strength and peace to rise above these difficult times.

Things are going okay here, we are not immune to these economic times. It has just made us pull the belt in much tighter. We do appreciate the support the horses are receiving. THANK YOU!

Though the calls are coming in to take in horses, we are unable to do so. However, we have been blessed with a good network, that we have been able to assist in the placement for them.

All of the horses here are doing well. No health issues (knock on wood). Little Electra is doing very well. Growing like a weed or shall I say a beautiful Rose. Charity is doing very well. Soon she will be going to the Ladies Parlour, to just be a horse. THANK YOU to all that rescued her.

Good Wednesday Morning to Everyone,

The Needle in the Hay Stack was a complete success and our check up and shot day will be towards the end of September. With it having been such a success we met the challenge that was put forth by one of our supporters. We are so grateful for the 80 additional bales of hay... THANK YOU to Everyone.

We have had family here for 14 days so trying to get back into the swing of things. Who would have thought that two little kids could wipe you out. LOL However, it was wonderful and they went home with memories and lots of pictures of them and the horses. Our little 7 yr old granddaughter, decided to take it upon herself one afternoon/evening to go outside and feed the horses herself. She told us she was going out to talk to Dublin, but when I stepped outside less than 20 minutes later to check on her she was out dragging the hay wagon around for the FB field. Mind you now, we had to go back and give them more as her rations were not enough. She knew what a flake was but she did not have the concept of how much. We praised her, because she took the initiative. But, we also told her that we would help her in the future. The one thing that I appreciate is the fact that our daughter has taught them that horses can be dangerous and though they may not mean to hurt you they can.

Bruno moped for a couple of days after they left as he would follow them step for step everywhere they went. When it was bed time for them, there he was right along with them, keeping a watchful eye. However, one evening I heard laughter and barking, and when I went to the bedroom, there were all three of them bouncing around the bed. They all stopped with that Deer in the headlights look. Quite comical.

All the horses are doing well, including Electra and Charity. The weaning is done, but we did give Electra a little roomie...an older mini named LC which belongs to my daughter-in-law. LC has taught Electra that people are good, whereas Charity was teaching her to stay away. It is all a balance and is working.

The Needle in the Hay Stack Challenge has been met!!!! Hooray!!!!!!! Thank you all so very very much!!!! Wow!

Plus since this challenge was accomplished our generous donor has ordered 80 bales of premium alfalfa for the horses at MHR....Whoo HOOO, Thank you ever so very very much. It will be delivered between 2 and 2:30 this afternoon.

What a famblee we have. When we set out to do something, we get it done!

Good Monday Morning to All,

We hope this finds all of you well.

This past week has been very busy. With our grandchildren visiting we have been hopping. We have not done a great deal special. The children are more interested in bathing the horses and a little pony ride when they are able.

Our seven yr old granddaughter has learned about feeding the horses and giving them water. She has surprised us all by going out and feeding and feeding them herself, she has it down pact but we double checked. She wanted to surprise us. She spends so much time with them. We asked her how she knew what to give, and she said I have watched you and grandpa....who at this point is her favorite man in her life. She has a knack with horses, it is amazing. Our little grandson is more intrigued with the dogs and his monster trucks and the water hose when bathing, so you have to watch where you stand, or you will be bathed as well.

We do have a very special fundraiser going on right now and that is the Needle in the Hay Stack. This will pay for all the shots for the rescued horses which is part of their health and welfare. There is so much more to caring for the horses than just saving them, it is a continued effort. They must have inoculations, hay etc. We do not have many that are adoptable for riding, but we do have many that would make wonderful barn buddies for that single horse who may be lonely. We also have a generous donor who has stated if our goal is met will donate a wonderful amount of hay for the horses. Again it is not just about the save but the after care. So if you can, the shots are $70.00 per horse and this includes physical. Our vet is on our advisory board and he will be conducting this on his day off so he can concentrate on our horses for the day.

Thank you so much for your support. It makes a big difference in their lives! Most are older horses but they need the same care as a younger one as well. Please, Please take this into consideration, each horse needs that someone special in their lives!

The Needle in the Haystack Fundraiser is off to an EXCELLENT start this morning! Thank you all so much...we are rockin and rollin. The horses will not just be getting shots but they will also be receiving a general physical from Dr. Hadland which is he donating. He is also taking one of his days off for the horses at MHR so he can take care of them and them alone!

Also thank you to our generous donor for the challenge he has offered up to meet this fund raiser. Each of you have not forgotten that it is not just the save, but the after care for the horses for the rescue. THANK YOU!!

Hi Everyone,

It was a pretty special day, weaning took place. Electra is a big girl now. We placed Charity in a large pen, so that we can work with her before putting her in the parlour. We want the ability to catch her up with no issues.

Charity handled her first bath very well, so we are sure once the woes of being apart from Electra has subsided she will be able to be handled much better. Charity has made so many strides since her arrival in October 09. We are very proud of her. She gained her weight, she had a beautiful foal and we step into a new chapter of the book and their journey.

We must prepare Electra in training so that she has the potential to find the best FOREVER home possible. She will be receiving lots of ground work and exposed to lots of things that can be so scary in her eyes. I would not even begin to give my thoughts as to what discipline she would be good at, that comes later down the road.

So, we now move forward, upward and onward.

Good Monday Afternoon,

Well, Nkki, Mina and Zachary arrived safely. Mom was kicked to the curb once they saw us. All the way home it was chatter about the horses, dogs, etc. Dogs were thrilled but not as much as the kids. Belmina was so excited, she explained look at all the beautiful horses!

It has been active here this morning, but a joy as well! We will have many things to show you later.
